Selena Gomez has been banned from Russia and has been forced to cancel all her scheduled “Star Dance Tour” stops after the country denied the Gomez her visa request due to her support of gay rights.
The Moscow Times reported that the Russian authorities decided to make entry into the country extremely difficult for foreign entertainers who support the promotion of “nontraditional sexual relationships.”
The Russian authorities sought to change there policies on the admittance to visiting entertainers since Madonna and Lady Gaga’s open advocacy for LGBT equality after the country’s controversial law was put in place.
Lady Gaga slammed the Russian government for its “criminal” stance on gay citizens, and Madonna is being sued for her support of the LGBT community there.
Next on the Russia’s celebrity ban list is Selena Gomez. Nedia reports reveal that advocates have warned that the regime would take measures to keep celebrities perceived as pro-gay rights out of the country.
Under Russian law it now appears that event organizers must now cancel Selena Gomez’s scheduled shows.
Gomez has yet to comment on the cancelations, and a rep for the singer had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. E! News did confirm, however, that she won’t be playing those dates.
Selena Gomez next tour stop is scheduled in Dubai on September 27 before heading to the States on October 10, where she’ll tour through November.
