Lloyd & Harry Look Older, Not Wiser in 'Dumb & Dumber To'
The snaps, courtesy of Jim Carrey's WhoSay page and Jeff Daniel's Twitter page, show Carrey and fellow stooge Daniels in full costume, makeup, and (especially) hair as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, the dimwitted but completely lovable heroes of the 1994 Farrelly Brothers hit, "Dumb & Dumber."
In
Carrey's pic (above), the pair are shown perusing an upside-down copy
of Carrey's new children's book, "How Roland Rolls," (nice product
placement, Jimbo) on the sequel's Atlanta set of "Dumb and Dumber To."
One
thing MIA from the photo is Daniels' shiny new Emmy. (Guess the fellas
didn't want to class up the scene.) But 58-year-old actor Daniels had to
hightail it to the set shortly after scoring his statuette for Best Actor
for playing Harry's polar opposite: Will McAvoy, the arrogant, educated
head anchor on HBO's "The Newsroom.""We're going to party 'til dawn and
then I'm going to get on a plane and go to Atlanta and start shooting
'Dumb and Dumber To,'" Daniels told E! after winning the award Sunday night. "The intellectual free-fall from [Will] McAvoy to Harry Dunne, imagine if you will."
Yes, we can imagine. The original gross-out opus is best known for its extended sequence
featuring Harry suffering from explosive diarrhea. Daniels hinted that
the sequel will be going even further into the deepest, darkest realms
of shameless scatology."The scariest thing? There are some things that we're going to do in 'Dumb and Dumber To' that make the toilet scene [in the original] seem lame," said Daniels. "Pales in comparison and I can't divulge what, but just that they've topped it."
The best thing about returning for another Harry & Lloyd adventure? "I get to work with a comedic genius," gushed Daniels of his co-star.
"Dumb & Dumber
To" has traveled a tortured trail. Talk of a sequel commenced shortly
after the original's release, but it proved tricky to schedule as Carrey and writers-directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly
rose in the ranks of the Hollywood comedy scene. In 2003, without the
participation of any of the major players, New Line released "Dumb &
Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd," a prequel that was slammed by both critics and audiences.
Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels in New Line Cinema's 'Dumb & Dumber'.
"Dumb & Dumber To" started to take shape in the past year, with Peter Farrelly
heavily hinting the project was close while he made the rounds
promoting "Movie 43." But then the sequel seemed in jeopardy when Warner
Bros. passed on the project in June. Ultimately, however, Universal swooped in and saved the day.
"Dumb
& Dumber To" takes place 20 years after Harry and Lloyd's Aspen
adventure, with the doofuses hitting the road in search of a long-lost
offspring (!) in the hopes of gaining a new kidney. IMDb currently has Kathleen Turner listed as playing a character named 'Fraida Feltcher,' so, you know, you've been warned.
