Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones won't be blowing out their birthday candles together.
The "Red 2" actress, 44 today, and "Behind the Candelabra" star, now 69, are expected to spend their shared September 25 birthday across the country from one another. From dinner dates, to star-studded parties, the couple typically has some sort of celebration together. But not this year.
Fresh from his Emmy win, Douglas is in New Mexico shooting the upcoming thriller "The Reach." Meanwhile, Zeta-Jones is in Bedford, New York, with their children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, who are back in school.
Although reps for the couple recently confirmed they are "taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage," Michael and Catherine are fighting to salvage their relationship.

"We're working things out, talking, and we'll see how she goes," Michael told People on Sunday after he thanked his "wife" during his award acceptance speech. "It's been a great professional year for me, and the personal life is doing fine."
Michael even said Zeta-Jones sent him a "lovely note" just before the Emmys.
"They're not giving up," a source close to the Oscar-winning actress also tells the magazine, adding that they speak multiple times a day. "It's not contentious between them."
However, the couple is living separate lives at the moment.
While Michael Douglas was named Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie on Sunday, Zeta-Jones was half a world away at a promotional event in China. Still, Douglas made sure to give Catherine a shout out during his acceptance speech.
"I want to thank my wife, Catherine, for her support," he said from the stage.

Friends of the couple are very hopeful the two will reconcile.
"Any other couple would have split by now. It's a testament to them that they hung on," a source tells People. "My sense is that he wants the marriage to work."
