Google Nexus 5 to sell for £239, leaks suggest
See, Apple? That’s what a ‘cheap’ handset really looks like.
Google could offer the Nexus 5 at a knockdown price, reports indicate, as it bids to capitalise on the millions of would-be iPhone owners disappointed that the iPhone 5c wasn’t more keenly priced.
According to sources cited by Phone Arena, the handset will likely be available in 16GB and 32GB storage iterations, which will feature 2300mAh and 3000mAh batteries respectively.
The entry-level model will apparently sell for $299 in the US, while the premium option is $399.
Those of you with long memories will recall those were the launch prices of the Nexus 4 when it first dropped at the tail end of last year.
Assuming Google also opts to hold UK prices steady, the 8GB Nexus 5 ought to be available for a very, very affordable £239.
That’s about half the price of the iPhone 5c, aka the handset erroneously touted as the ‘budget iPhone’ before Apple’s official announcement made it clear that it was anything but.
Google is set to unveil the fifth-gen Nexus smartphone later this month and, depending on who you believe, it could pack a MEMS camera and a larger 4.95-inch screen.
4G support is also tipped to feature, as is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.
