Samsung lawyers face reprimand over Apple licence deal leak

Samsung is in hot water with a US judge after a number of its lawyers saw a confidential document detailing a secret licence pact between Apple and Nokia.
The document, which was meant to be redacted, was seen by up to 90 Samsung staffers, breaching court rules.
Now some of Samsung’s legal team have been ordered to appear before Judge Paul Grewal and explain whether the information was illegally used in separate, ongoing legal wrangles involving the Cupertino company.
The deal between Apple and Nokia was supposed to be a secret and was only meant to be shared with one expert witness on Samsung’s team. Instead, its distribution could see Samsung fined under California State Law.
Samsung says the spread of the document was not illegal as it was unintentional. It’s unclear whether this defence will be sufficient.
The Korean company has previous when it comes to sharing confidential Apple data. In 2009, one of its senior executives passed iPad shipping information to a US hedge fund months before the tablet’s official launch.
