New Globe commercial sells more sex
Brand's ad is the latest addition in a slew of provocative happenings this summer
2013 has definitely been the summer of sex. First there was the controversy over the sexy Roxy Pro promo, then the U.S. Open riot, which many blamed on the smutty atmosphere at the event, then Anastasia Ashley gyrated her way to four million views and counting during her Supergirl Pro warmups, and now Globe releases a commercial for their new skateboards that makes it look like they’re trying to outdo them all.
The commercial features a full crew of bikini model stars along with a couple skate pros, and the description copy says the ad is promoting cruiser boards that “come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and graphics in a variety of plastics and woods. Unparalleled quality and craftsmanship backed by a 30-day, money-back guarantee.” What you see on screen though are hot girls having pillow fights, frolicking in a pool, and riding topless in a convertible, while skaters ride mini and launch ramps among them in a Palm Springs hotel.
Sex has always sold, but in this crowded media landscape and tough economic times athletes and advertisers are pushing the envelope further and further to get attention and move units.
