It might just be your last chance at a summer celebration until 2014
For many of us, summer means long weekends at the beach, where we surf, standup paddle, play volleyball, and just enjoy the heat interspersed with some cool dips in the ocean, lake, or river. Unfortunately for summer lovers like us, summer is over—but there is a ray of hope that we may be able to recapture the season for a bit, and it comes in the form of an innovative series of beach parties that is ongoing across the country.
As part of Fiat’s launch of its 2014 Fiat 500L, a sporty SUV, it’s throwing six “urban beach parties,” where folks in beach cities across the nation get to dip their toes in the water and sand and participate in the growing silent dance party craze, where people dance “silently” while they listen to music on headphones.
So far, Fiat has thrown five of these parties—one in Miami, one in Santa Monica, California, one in San Diego, one in Chicago, and one in San Francisco—and there is one more yet to come, which kicks off in Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York, on October 18 from 7 p.m. until 12 a.m. in conjunction with the New York Surf Film Festival at Nitehawk Cinemas.
What’s special about Fiat’s silent dance parties, which are powered by the avant-garde technology company Silent Frisco, is not only do party-goers get to listen to hip beats by popular DJs, but they also get to enjoy the launch of an original “day-in-the-life” video, which showcases a local resident connected to the beach scene as they use the FIAT 500L in their daily lives. (For example, Miami’s “day-in-the-life” video star was Mark Gamez, who owns the F1RST Surf Shop.)
If you’re in the New York area on October 18, check out all the action by heading over toWilliamsburg from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. And enjoy this story’s shots of some of the party-goers who had fun in Miami, Santa Monica, San Diego, Chicago, and San Francisco.
