Samsung Note 10.1, Google Nexus 10 and Sony Xperia Z tablet to get Sky Go support in November?
On-demand service dated for larger Android tablets.
Sky Go will be available to watch on more capacious Android slates from next month, it seems, as the service finally spreads its wings on Google’s platform.
Currently, only Android tablets with seven-inch screens can use the TV on-demand app. This equates to Google’s Nexus 7 and Nexus 7 (2013), as well as the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Galaxy Tab 3 7.0.
But the good news for owners of kits with larger screens, including the Samsung Note 10.1 and Tab 2 10.1, Google Nexus 10, Sony Xperia Z and the Asus Transformer Prime TF201, is that they’re set to join the party in November. Or at least that’s the date Sky is aiming for, as revealed by posts on its customer forums.
Responding to a customer enquiry, a Sky rep said: “There is a tablet specific version of Sky Go currently in beta testing and due for full release in November, so it will probably be available at that time.”
Sky announced the aforesaid trial, which will bring the on-demand app to “almost all 7” tablets or larger, running Android v4.0 and above”, back in late September, when it began soliciting for Android tablet owners to get involved.
Last week, Sky confirmed it has added Sky Go support to more Android devices. Among them were the Sony Xperia Z1, the Sony Xperia Z1 Ultra, the HTC One SV and the LG G2.
Sky also announced Sky Go is now available on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. However, we’ve since heard from uSwitch Tech users that this is not the case and that the app does not work with Samsung’s third-generation phablet.
We’ve approached Sky and Samsung to get some kind of official confirmation and see what kind of advice they're proffering to customers. In the meantime, if you’re a Note 3 owner, let us know how you’re getting on with Sky Go in the comments section below.
